The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has expanded its investigation on the case of Mary Jane Sollano, who was rescued from the residence of Mariano Tanenglian in Quezon City last Monday.
CHR –NCR Protection and Monitoring Division Chief Atty. Carmelita Rosete said that the incident is a possible violation of child abuse and child trafficking. Rosete said that the victim was still a minor when she was employed by the Tanenglians. Sollano worked for the Tan family to help his sick father but went missing after five years. Roland Sollano, Mary Jane’s father only knew about her daughter’s wherabouts through Aljane Bacanto, a co-helper of her daughter who escaped from the Tanenglian’s residence recently.
Sto. Domingo barangay captain Richard Yu said that they several negotiations with Tan’s lawyers to release the housemaid. Department of Social Welfare and Development rescue Officer Mr. Jonathan Agustin said the battered housemaid will undergo medical and psychological examinations to assess her true condition.
Meanwhile, retired Lt. Gen. Salvador Mison, spokesperson of Lucio Tan Group and President of Basic Holdings Corp. said that Mariano Tanenglian’s brother, business taipan Lucio Tan has no involvement over the said case.
