PCGG gives Tan brod last chance

The Presidential Commission on Good Governance (PCGG) is giving Mariano Tanenglian, brother of business taipan Lucio Tan, one last chance to appear before the officials of PCGG to be considered as witness against his own brother.

PCGG Commissioner Ricardo Abcede said that this is the last chance that will be given to Mariano Tanenglian to appear before them in order for PCGG to study his offer to testify against his brother in exchange for immunity for suit.

Abcede added that granting someone immunity from suit is not that easy and is very important. The Commission wants to interview Tanenglian and see whether his testimony would be valuable for the government.

Earlier this year, former housemaids Mary Jane Sollano, 18, and Aljane Bacanto, 19, separately filed similar complaints before the DOJ. The two also accused the Tanenglian family for abusing them and maltreatment.

When sought for a reaction, Tanenglian’s camp said the allegations were “part of a bigger picture.” Mariano Tanenglian is the estranged brother of businessman Lucio Tan.

“As we all know somebody is trying to stop our client from testifying at the Sandiganbayan,” Tanenglian’s lawyer, Raymund Quiroz, said. He added that they will answer all charges once they receive a copy of the complaint.
