2 maids file complaint vs Tan brother (Philippine Daily Inquirer)

Two former housemaids of the brother of Lucio Tan, Mariano Tanenglian, filed a complaint yesterday against their former employer and his family claiming that they were maltreated and detained against their will.

According to Atty, Al Parreno, the lawyer of maids Mary Jane Sollano and Aljance Bacanto, the two pressed charges against Mariano Tanenglian, his wife Alete, and two children, Marvin and Fayette.

Parreno clarified that the police report stating that Sollano’s father accepted P150, 000.00 from Tanenglian and signed a waiver stating that they will not pursue and participate in a case against Tanenglian have no bearing to the complaint filed by the two maids.

The complaint stated that Sollano, who was working for the family for five years, and Bacanto, working for three years, were maltreated by the Tanenglian family. Furthermore, the two did not receive any payment for their work and were barred from leaving the house and communicating with their relatives.

The two are now under the custody of Kaisa Foundation which helps women that are victims of violence.
