Tan brother faces another abuse charge (Philippine Daily Inquirer)

Another housemaid of Mariano Tanenglian, 19-year-old Aljane Bacanto filed criminal complaints against him, his wife Aleta, and children Marvin and Fayette for alleged maltreatment, serious illegal detention, slavery, and frustrated homicide.

Bacanto stated how she and other maids were not allowed to leave the house, call anyone, and given any salary, even food. She recounts that because of extreme hunger, she and a fellow house helper were forced to eat dog food only to be beaten up when caught. According to her, the family would padlock the house whenever they would leave.

Lawyer Raymund Quiros, legal counsel for the Tanenglians, said that his client is a subject of an orchestrated move to put his client in a bad light. Mariano Tanenglian is the brother of tycoon Lucio Tan with whom he has been at odds over personal and business matters.

Atty. Quiros, nonetheless, said that his client is ready to answer all the allegations against them.
